Two for joy

When I was little and mum would drop me to school,

we’d often play around and act like fools.

She had her own version of the magpies rhyme,

thinking of which reminds me of a beautiful time.

If we’d ever spot some birds in the sky on our way,

this is what she’d turn to me and say;

Two for joy, three for company,

and many together are always a pleasure to see.

But what about just one, I’d ask

Who does he stun?

He stuns the heart, she’d say,

because he has ample of it to fly alone.

I’d ask still, Do you think he’s sad,

Mum would answer, all I know is he’s determined to fly and I’m glad.

Do you think he misses the flock and his chest pains?

I think what matters is that with or without the flock, his ability to fly remains.

So, two for joy, three for company,

And many together are always a pleasure to see.

But what's special is the one, because it is my heart that he stuns.
